What if FenceDirect's prices are higher than others on the web? As with all other purchases made from a retailer, whether on the web or in a store, the buyer must be careful. There are companies willing to capture business with lower prices, sometimes at the buyer's ultimate expense. We are proud to have been the first company to sell only Jerith products; only online. Other factors to consider when comparing FenceDirect.com to our competitiors -

FenceDirect.com,LLC is:

  • an award-winning dealer of Jerith Manufacturing Co., Inc., the leading ornamental aluminum fence manufacturer in the country.

  • the only fence company staffed entirely by  people who used to work for Jerith in Philadelphia.

  • more knowledgeable about Jerith's fences.

  • a member of the Better Business Bureau.  We conform to the BBB's Code of Business Practices and their Code of Advertising. You can be sure that we mean what we say.

In Addition:

  • We promise prompt attention to your order.

  • We automatically review your order to catch errors before the order is passed on to Jerith.

  • Note that we do not accept credit card numbers online. For your safety and confidence, we will contact you after we review your order to confirm that the order will meet your needs, and to get the necessary information for payment.

What standard colors are available? All items except Patriot Ornamental Wire Fence are available in a black, white or bronze FencCoat™ powder-coated finish. A gold color is also an option for finials, ball caps and scrolls.

Can I use Jerith fence as a railing? NO! Jerith's products are designed to be fences, not railings. They have not been tested to meet railing codes; neither Jerith nor FenceDirect will warrant their use as such.

Are line posts included with the sections? No. All items are sold separately. That way, you only need to order the parts you will use for a particular job.

Are caps included with the posts? Standard post caps are included in the price. Decorative ball caps are also available for an additional charge.

Are the sections and gates assembled? Almost all fence sections and gates are shipped fully assembled. Certain styles require finials and/or loops to be installed in the field. Encore Aluminum Fence is fabricated, but must be assembled.

How tall is the actual fence? Except where it is noted, the fence height shown is the actual length of the pickets. The post usually extends an inch or so above the pickets.

What is the post spacing? For Residential Strength fences, the spacing is 72½" from center of post to center of post. For Ovation, Regency, Encore and Patriot the spacing is 72".  Industrial Fence is 71½" on Center.

How can I determine the material I will need for my job?  Just go to the page titled It's Easy to Lay Out the Job.  There you will find step-by-step instructions. If you still need help, just give us a call, or send a drawing of your project by fax or mail. We'll figure out exactly what you need and give you firm quote.

What do I have to order with a gate?  You must order Heavy-duty gate posts. The Heavy-Duty posts are needed to support the weight of the gate and to withstand the constant impact when the gate latches.  Smaller gates require Extra Heavy 2" Square Posts, while heavier gates may require 4" or even 6" Posts.  The size and weight of the gate determine which post is necessary, and the estimate and order form will tell you when oversize posts are required.

The gate hinges may be installed directly to a wall or masonry post, eliminating the need for one gate post. Be aware that such installations require that the wall be absolutely plumb for the gate to work correctly. We advise that wherever possible, two Heavy-Duty Gate Posts make installation of the gate easier and more dependable.

All hardware is included for a standard installation.  Latches and hinges are included with each gate, as are all necessary fasteners.

If you want a child-resistant magnetic latch (on all styles except  Ovation and Encore) you will have to order it.

You might also consider enhancing the appearance of your gates by ordering ball caps (castings) for the gate posts and/or scrolls for the gates (scrolls & finials).

How far can the fence rake (or rack)? Most sections of fence can rake about 12" over their span. (Some styles move a bit more or less than 12". Check with us for the differences.) If you want to follow a steeper slope than this without stepping the fence, you need to order a "double punched" section. The square holes in these rails are about twice as wide as in a standard rail to allow for greater picket movement. Consequently, these rails allow a section to drop about 36" over the length of the section. The additional charge for these sections is $11.00 each. Order only as many of these special panels as you need for your job.

The Regency styles of Windsor Plus and Buckingham Plus can not rake. The rings that are installed between the pickets prevent raking so the fence sections must be stepped to follow the grade. This is usually best achieved with the use of unpunched posts and wall mount castings.

The Patriot Ornamental Wire Fence can not rake, so the fence sections must be stepped to follow the grade.

What about touch-up paint? Jerith ships a small bottle of touch-up paint with most orders to cover minor nicks and damage that may occur in transit at no charge. There are also cans of spray paint available for purchase. Do not use these air-dry paints to cover large areas because they will weather and fade at a different rate than the FencCoat™ powder-coated finish. These paints are not guaranteed for that reason.

How do I attach the fence to a column or the house? On all fences except Encore and Patriot, use wall mounts to fasten the rails of the fence to a column. Wall mounts are small aluminum castings which go over the end of a rail and have two holes to attach them to a column or wall. There are two types of wall mounts. The standard ones are fixed at 90° to attach straight onto the column. The adjustable wall mounts swivel to allow mounting at an angle of up to 45°. Wall mounts can also be used on our posts when you need to follow an unusual angle, or if you are stepping the fence sections rather than raking them.

How do I handle corner angles that are not 90 degrees? It is possible to use standard posts.  For example, if the angle is greater than 90 degrees you can use a standard line post. If the angle is between 45 and 90 degrees, you may use a corner post.

The standard posts have clearance in the holes that are punched to accept the horizontal rails of the fence sections. They will allow you to move the post to accept the sections. If the pre-punched holes need more clearance, they can be easily enlarged using a small flat file.

An easier, and in most cases, a more attractive installation may be achieved by using adjustable wall mounts. These are aluminum castings, powder coated to match your fence, that allow you to install the fence sections into the posts at almost any angle. They fit onto the end of the horizontal rails, and swivel to fit the post at whatever angle is needed. The castings are then fastened to the post.

These castings must be ordered, and are inexpensive. In addition, you will need to order end posts or blank posts instead of corner posts when using wall mounts so there will be no pre-punched holes. Blank posts will cost the same as standard corner posts.

What should the spacing be when I am installing between columns? The maximum distance between columns is the standard post spacing times the number of sections between the columns, minus the width of one post.

For example, if you want to space your columns so that three Residential sections fit between them, take 3 times the post spacing of 72½" minus one 2" post.

(3 x 72.5") - 2" = 215.5" or 17'-11½" between columns.

How do I attach the fence to the deck around a pool? To fasten posts to a concrete slab, Jerith always recommends that you core drill the concrete. That can be done with a large drill and a hollow carbide bit; equipment is usually available at any tool-rental company.

If this is not feasible, then you may be able to use deck mounts. Jerith's deck mounts are unique, and are the best offered anywhere. These two-piece aluminum castings fit inside the bottom of a post, and secure to the post through the expansion of the two pieces by tightening a bolt. You must supply the four bolts required to attach the deck mounts to the concrete itself. Do not use deck mounts on fences taller than 4' high or for gates posts! They will fail!
